We all have that one game. That one game that we consider greater than anything we've ever played. Regardless of your system of choice, there's one game that embodies your fondest memories of your gaming career.

So, what is it? For me, it's a constant tie between Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the GCN and Star Ocean: The Second Story for the PS1 (and soon the PSP, making me almost consider the system not terrible).

Eternal Darkness was a rare gem that really captured a sense of mythology about itself. You played a woman named Alexandra Roivas, and set to solve the mystery behind your grandfather's murder. While searching his mansion, you find pages of a book called the Tome of Eternal Darkness, which tell the stories of people in history who have fought the dark Ancients, channeled to Earth by the undead centurian Pious Augustus. The game was a survival horror (a genre I hate) title that had you play out these people through history, and you slowly learned of the conflict between man and the Ancients, who sought to retake the planet. The game's most unique feature, besides its amazing story, was its Sanity Meter...as you saw enemies, your character would lose their grip on sanity and hallucinate. Truly a fantastic title.

Star Ocean: The Second Story, on the surface, was a pretty average JRPG. Below the surface, however, it was a space fantasy that, I believe, outclasses even Star Wars. It told the story of Claude Kenni, a military cadet from Earth, landing on a distant, "underdeveloped" planet and ending up getting caught up in conflicts that eventually cause the very demise of that planet. Truly a splendid story, and definitely underrated.

So, what about you?

It would have to be Star War's III the best game out of the whole series i believe.
